![]() ![]() My aims when creating this texture pack were simplicity, professionalism, contrast and familiarity. As my tileset is focused on immersion, most items have their weight more or less represented pictorially through the size of their sprites, with some things having added shine to make up for that. After a long, hard 3 months of work, I have finally completed my biggest spriting project yet.A remake of NetHack, one of the most famous rogue-likes of all time. That's how I solve the problem of showcasing a single piece, with effects. Nethack is a game that you can play for hundreds of hours and still not master. I have instead made a sprite that shows up only "one" piece, but a very shiny one to make up for that. Ascii IBMgraphics :-) (really, because all the available tilesets for nethack have such fuzzy little graphics that are absolutely impossible to tell apart, for example all the humanoid monsters always look the same to me so I'd have to farlook every one, whereas with ascii I know 'ah that's a gnome, that's a dwarf, and this fellow over here is a giant, and uhh yeah the purple h is the one. from publication: Toward a Formal Foundation for Time Travel in Stories and Games. However, doing sprite art for 1, 2, 3, 4 etc pieces of gold is taxating, hence the "jump" from 2 to 10. The graphical tiles used come from the open source game Nethack 12. If the tileset is pictorial and is avoiding excessive use of icons (going for immersion instead, like mine) it's very strange to find a "pile of gold" represented by many gold pieces and then notice that you're only picking up to ~5 pieces only. To win, youll need to be a master of tactics and strategy, and prevail against overwhelming odds. It has many sprites for "gold pieces", to represent one, two, three etc. Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is a game of dungeon exploration, combat and magic, involving characters of diverse skills, worshipping deities of great power and caprice. all ants get one image, all blobs get another, and so on. ![]() The NeXTSTEP NetHack used one image per monster symbol, so eg. This tileset can be used with NetHack 3.4.3. All those numbers only actually matter in the early game though, and my suggestion is, more than anything else, a QoL. NeXTSTEP The NeXTSTEP tiles is a recreation of a tileset used on a NeXTSTEP system. It's not all that arbitrary: Any value of 100 is a nice find. ![]()
